Things to do

  • This small town used to be called Sedlec and many inhabitants still remember the town being called that. Sedlice is situated on the south eastern bank of the Brdský Spur and separates the Blatenská Basin from the Horaždovice Basin. There are several important ecclesiastical monuments in the village, the parish church of St Jacob the Great from the 14th century, a baroque chapel with a well and a statue of St Jan Nepomucký in the square.
  • Sedlice is also an ideal place to buy local, handmade souvenirs or presents. The renowned Sedlice lace dates from the 18th century when Countess Ludmila Černínová sent two local women to learn the art of lacemaking at the private school of Madam Ranier from Belgium. At the end of the 19th century the owner of the estate, Vlasta Stránecká, established a lacemaking school. Bobbin lace is still made in Sedlice today. A shop with lace can be found in the square and you can also buy replicas of historical glass there made in the nearby glass factory in Bělčice u Blatné. Lacemaking courses are held in August every year. www.sedlickakrajka.cz

Schweik´s Recommendation

  • In the second half of August the town hosts a fair. The popular town fair starts with a morning mass and ends with a dance party into the morning hours of the following day.
  • Past Sedlice towards Písek you can find the Milava campsite - a good place for a swim as the water is carefully monitored here and is fit for swimming.
