A former town moat built in the 13th century as part of the castle and its fortification has recently been turned into a park. Besides the fortification function of the moat it also served as the town‘s sewer. A wooden drawbridge arched over the moat from the Putim Gate, which led into the town from the south. A stone bridge replaced the original one during the renaissance period and, later, in 1842 a monolithic block to allow carriage crossing extended the bridge. The monolith blocked both bridge arches so the moat ceased to serve its original purpose and was closed down for an extended period of time. The reconstruction of the moat began in the autumn of 2005 and it was solemnly re-opened in May of 2006. Footprints of the first children to officially walk under the arches after one and half centuries are reminders of the opening ceremony. Those whose feet fit in the little footprints will walk through their lives with luck and joy …
