Like every year on this day in January the local House of
Culture will come to life to the sound of music played by Metroklub
Band České Budějovice, Hamleti and cembalom music.
13th Year of the National Exhibition of Children's
and Youth Art Work
April 16 - May 16
This national exhibition has been organised for many years now
and it is a unique exhibition of its kind. It is not a typical
competition of children's art work, as its main focus is on the
current methodology employed by art teachers when working with
children and young people.
The opening of the summer tourist season in Písek,
'Cipískoviště', a three day event for the wider public which is
primarily focused on children. As last year, we will be playing in
sandpits, we can also look forward to seeing huge statues made of
sand and there will be masses of entertainment, such as concerts
given on a floating stage on the river, the Fairy Tale Castle, the
Night in the Museum and the Dragon Boat Race.
Tourpropag 2010, the major national competition judging
promotional materials prepared by towns and regions, is entering
its 14th year. The prize winners will be available for viewing till
the end of May at an exhibition in the Malt House.
During the 49th year of this National Show of Experimental
Theatre called Šrámek's Písek, the audience will be able to enjoy a
number of theatre performances given by ensembles selected by a
professional jury at regional shows from all over the country. The
accompanying programme for the wider public will have a lot to
offer and it is bound to satisfy each and every visitor to this
extraordinary event.
South Bohemian Summer of Music - American
Spring
May - July
In the last couple of years this traditional festival of
classical music, which has been going for more than thirty years,
has joined forces with the national festival American Spring this
year, one will be able to enjoy not only a number of chamber music
concerts, but also Nedbal's operetta Polish Blood in the production
by The North Texas University.
The 5th Year of the National Waldorf Schools Theatre Show will
present more than 18 theatrical pieces played by Secondary School
students from the Czech and Slovak Republics. The theatrical pieces
range from classical plays to fairytales and modern theatre. The
individual style of the productions and the choice of the material
presented guarantee the audience a unique experience. Theatre
workshops for participants at this event and a show put on by
professional actors will also be on offer.
The 18th year of the traditional Town Festival is dedicated to
the theme of progress. The visitors will be able to enjoy a varied
and rich musical programme and entertainment aimed at the whole
family. The Town Festival will turn the town into one giant
playground, for both large and small. There will not only be the
traditional fireworks, but also many new attractions, which will
present the town from a new perspective. Our partnership towns will
participate in our festivities. There will be exhibitions, tasting
sessions, celebrity signing sessions, competitions for individuals
and schools. This Town Festival will tempt all your senses.
Písek Summer of Culture
June - September
Concerts and many other events making the summer in Písek come
to life.
Festival nad řekou (Above the River Festival)
July 30 - August 05
After its opening last year, this festival will yet again bring
to Písek unique, multi-genre events focused on the presentation of
film art which is dedicated not only to the professionals, but also
the general public. The main theme of this year is Belle Époque
(the time when industry inspires art), French cinematography; and
Polish films of moral dilemmas.
International Dance Workshop "Factory 2010"
August 16 - 21
The 2nd Year of a Dance Workshop for dance groups both from the
Czech Republic and abroad. The groups will work on a joint
choreography performance, which will be presented to the local
audience at the end of their stay in Písek.
16th International Folklore Festival
August 18 - 22
Písek will once again host the International Folklore Festival.
This year there will also be children's folklore groups performing
for us, not to mention a varied musical programme. The event will
be, as always, concluded with a Saturday gala programme called
"Písek, the Dancing Town on the Otava" including all the
participating ensembles.
During the Days of Japanese Culture visitors will have the
opportunity to enjoy the following: a Ševčík's concert performed by
the Ševčík's Players, an orchestra from Japan, a show of Japanese
martial art, a tea ceremony, tasters from Japanese cuisine - a
demonstration of how to prepare traditional Japanese food, ikebana
workshop, origami, exhibition of peace posters, photos (Hiroshima
Before and After), examples of traditional Japanese dance and
clothing, and Japanese documentary films.
The third working meeting of major European cartoonists showing
not only an exhibition of the cartoonists' work in the Malt House
on a previously arranged theme but there will also be a drawing
session with the public.
10th International Festival of Students' Films
Písek
September 30 - October 2
This is a festival full of interesting and unique films from
various parts of the world. Apart from European goodies, we can
enjoy films from Korea, India, the USA, Australia, New Zealand,
Indonesia, the Argentine etc. Leading national and international
celebrities will lead many attractive workshops and there will be
music and dance productions to enjoy. This Jubilee Year will also
present a number of surprises.

2e WCDF Regional Country Line Dancing Competition CZECH REPUBLIC

October 8 - 10
The 4th year of Line Dancing workshops delivered by leading
international presenters will be followed by a country ball and a
Line Dancing Party, and the 2nd Year of the International dance
Competition following the World Country Dance Federation
regulations will take place during these days.
A competition/dance show of all modern dance styles organised
under the auspices of the Mayor of Písek that will be attended by a
number of international groups. The presiding jury comprises
dancing icons that have made their names not only on the Czech
dance floor but also abroad. On Sunday the jury will lead a whole
day dance workshop for interested parties.
