Town Festival Písek 2010

18th year of the Town Festival is entering its final. This event known under the name "Touch Písek" will take place on Friday June 11 - Saturday June 12 and will culminate by the conventional procession and mass on Sunday June 13. The town centre will turn into a single large stage and auditorium where the visitors will experience many attractions and specialities. We aim to entertain a wide audience, exactly whole families, and bring new motion and tradition. The programme is rich and manifold for everybody.

Closed zone for token charge:

• Velké náměstí, Sladovna, Prácheňské Museum, Alšovo Square, Havlíčkovo Square and Karlova, Heydukova a Jungmannova streets + parking places.
• In this zone, there will be a main stage and two smaller stages as well as several quiet areas where visitors may watch chamber performances.

Free admission zone

• Palackého Park, Gothic moat and Bakaláře, vicinity of the Town Power Plant and of the Stone Bridge, embankment of the Otava River in Čechova Street and Výstaviště

All the scenes will be connected through a recognition historical competition for all members of a family, which will take place both days of the Festival.

The Town Festival is a joint project rising from incentive cooperation of the Písek subjects as follows:

Advance sale of tickets for the "Touch Písek" Town Festival started on May 3. The ticket office is placed in the Culture House (open Monday - Friday 9.00 - 16:00) and in the Sladovna (Malt House; open Tuesday - Sunday 9:00 - 17:00). Therefore the tickets are available every day. Price of the tickets in advance sale is 50 CZK, in time of the Festival 80 CZK. The first ten thousand people will receive a commemorative coin, just like the previous years. Children up to 120 cm (approximately) and visitors over 70 years are free of charge.

Companies and entrepreneurs who have their shops within the closed zone may come to the Sladovna and collect entrance tickets in number corresponding with their needs. Those who live in the closed area may order and collect their tickets in the Sladovna, too.

The Festival will significantly affect life of the town. It means closure of traffic and some restriction for inhabitants within the closed zone. There will not be accessible the areas as follows:

• from June 9 at 18:00 until June 13 at 14:00 parking lot at the Velké Square, Fügnerovo Square, Jungmannova Street, Alšovo Square and Chelčického Street
• from June 10 at 18:00 until June 13 at 14:00 parking lot in Svatotrojicka Street
• from June 10 at 14:00 until June 13 at 14:00 Velke and Fügnerovo Squares, embankment of May 1, Podskali Street, Karlova Street, Heydukova Street, Palackeho sady, Havlickovo Square, V Koute, Nigrova, Smetanova, Nerudova, Soukenicka and Jungmannova Streets, Alsovo Square, Chelcickeho Street, Leose Janacka, Frani Sramka and Drlicov Streets.

The conventional "Touch Písek" Town Festival will take place in token of games and good music. For the second June week-end, there is a manifold programme prepared which completely differs from other town festivals. Ancient historical subjects are changed by recent times, e.g. period which brought dynamics and prosperity to Písek. Period connected with a number of famous natives and personalities who spent a big part of their life in Písek. As we have already mentioned, the programme is focused on families with children.

The leading motif of the Festival will be progress and electrical charms of František Křižík. During all the Festival, an entertaining and recognition competition is prepared not only for the children. It will present famous personalities as well as interesting sites of the town. There will be three stages in the Písek centre offering music and culture programme. As usual, areas of the Palackého sady, the Gothic moat, the power plant on the Otava River bank, the Stone Bridge and of the Výstaviště will also be engaged in the programme. We believe that Písek will welcome not only the annual visitors but also new ones thanks to the completely new composition.

We look forward to meeting you in Písek and hope to enjoy this year "Touch Písek" Festival together. It will be a celebration of the town, a meeting point, a place for presenting the best that we can offer and provide. This year Town Festival will be about sand and for the Písek inhabitants!
